On Saturday, October 30th, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley hosted a very sobering and timely event for the community with over 70 in attendance, including City of Mission Viejo Mayor, Trish Kelley and 14 members of the Mission Viejo Chamber. "Stop Human Trafficking through Education and ACTION" was the topic and the AAUW was deeply appreciative of the support and publicity provided for this special event.
Chamber member Moustafa El-Shaabini of Paradise Photography receives credit for the pictures. The event evaluations were positive, and 94% of the responders felt they gained new information at the event. We are excited for next year's event!

We extend a warm welcome to all Chamber members and the community to join us at the Beyond Alphabets Preschool Open House to be held on November 15th, starting at 5pm. Mayor Greg Raths will also be in attendance.
Please see the flyer below for more details. Welcome Jennifer Arnott, the proud owner of CAllie Girl Boutique, to the Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce and our amazing city!
Please enjoy some photos from the recent Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening held on October 24th, at CAllie Girl Boutique. As always, we thank the City of Mission Viejo, Mayor Greg Raths and First Lady, Lucy Raths, Councilwoman Patricia Kelley, all other governmental offices, and our amazing Chamber Directors, Ambassadors, and members that supported this fine event. On October 12th, Chamber member, AAUW Mission Viejo-Saddleback Valley (American Association of University Women) gathered to celebrate their 40 year anniversary!
This event honored the founders and past-presidents dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Pictured below are AAUW Mission Viejo-Saddleback Valley members Marcia Milchiker and Kathie Youmans with the City of Mission Viejo Mayor, Greg Raths. Fun time honoring the charter members and past presidents over 40 years! Congratulations again and thank you to Chamber "Ambassador of the Quarter", Joan Bornstein (Joan Bornstein Real Estate), for submitting this exciting news to us! Please enjoy this brief message from the City of Mission Viejo Mayor, Greg Raths:
Let’s Support Our Small Businesses! "Summer is over and many of us are returning from getaways, but one segment in our community that never seems to take time off is our small business owners. These people work tirelessly to be successful. In 2018, according to U.S. Census Bureau data, there are almost 6.2 million employer firms in the United States. Companies with less than 20 workers make up 90 percent of businesses. As your Mayor, I am 100% behind our small business owners. I always find the time to attend a ribbon cutting event when a new business opens its doors. Also, I enjoy a Tuesday morning breakfast with the Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce Daybreakers at High Park Tap House. I enjoy listening to our business owners promote their service or product, and when I need that service or product they will be the first I call upon. The Mission Viejo City Council recently approved a fee deferral program to assist new businesses going through the building permit process. This program waives the fee to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy permit, saving an average of $215. This may appear to be a small figure, but every little bit helps when starting a small business. With the increase of online shopping, I ask that you find some time to frequent our small shops, restaurants, and shopping centers. Sincerely, Greg Raths Mayor, City of Mission Viejo The crowds gathered on Thursday, September 26th, at 4pm. Both the Lake Forest and Mission Viejo Chambers, along with family and friends, and City, State, and Federal governmental representatives, came out to witness and support the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of ADIO Chiropractic.
After an enjoyable office tour, enjoying various foods, and collecting our raffle tickets, all attendees gathered for both Chamber Ribbon Cuttings, as the governmental representatives each presented their welcome certificates to the Cadman family, owners of ADIO Chiropractic. At the conclusion of the Ribbon Cuttings, raffles were conducted and several deserving members received their gifts. Once again, both the Lake Forest and Mission Viejo Chambers wholeheartedly welcome ADIO Chiropractic to their business communities! For more information or to make an appointment at ADIO Chiropractic, please call 949-427-9081 or visit their website at www.liveadio.com. In the late afternoon on September 19th, various local business owners gathered to begin setting up their booths for the "Buy Local Showcase". It should be noted that some even spent they entire day their managing the set up of tents, booths, tables, chairs, and keeping the site secure (thanks John Salamy and Doug Zielasko!)
By 4pm, the community (including many Chamber Directors, Ambassadors, Mayor Greg Raths, Councilwoman Wendy Bucknum, City Liaison Larry Longenecker) started visiting the various booths and listening to the business owners share their services. Each visitor was given a "vendor card" to encourage them to visit each booth, enjoy various give-a-ways, and be entered into the main opportunity drawing. Congrats to Bob Meyer of Beacon Sales and Marketing for winning the $200 prize! It was encouraging to watch so many visitors also take in interest in their local Chamber of Commerce and we look forward to having those businesses join us soon! The Sol Agave food truck was onsite to feed everyone and there was an ice cream truck filled with yummy desserts. The Music Vault Academy arranged for a talented youth group to perform several hit songs from their band. Good times! As the sun started to set and 7pm (ish) rolled around, the tents, booths, and the whole set-up was taken down by a large group of Chamber, City, and community members. Thank you to all who helped in this effort! Special thanks to the City of Mission Viejo for helping us to promote this event via extra signage and media coverage. We look forward to the 2020 "Buy Local Showcase" already!
